About Jorge Marten Groen
Certified sleep coach
I am Jorge Marten Groen, owner of sleep coaching practice Droomtroost in Amstelveen. I guide busy adults who struggle to keep all the balls in the air and end up paying the price at night.
But let me start at the beginning. I know what insomnia feels like. I don’t just have a predisposition for insomnia, I’ve truly experienced it. For five years, according to official criteria. At least three nights a week, and often five, I slept less than five hours a night—or not at all. I spent countless nights on the couch, reading books, doing sudoku puzzles, waiting for a feeling of sleepiness that simply wouldn’t come.
During the day, I was tired, irritable, and less sharp. I sent clients emails full of typos, snapped at colleagues, and felt bad about it afterward.
And yet, during that same period, I built a business from the ground up that became active in three countries. I don’t say this to brag, but to encourage you. Your life isn’t over if you’re a poor sleeper and juggling a busy schedule—even though it can feel that way at times.
How I got out of it
My recovery didn’t follow a straight line. I searched everywhere for solutions: in books, podcasts, online, in scientific literature, and in the depths of my own mind. I created strict schedules, meditated, walked in the morning light, and tried every sleep tip I could find, with mixed success.
What made the difference was insight. I learned how insomnia develops through the 3P model by sleep scientist Arthur Spielman: the predisposing factors that make you vulnerable, the precipitating stressor that tips the first domino, and the perpetuating thoughts and habits that keep the problem going—even after the original stress has long passed.
The approach that helped me most—and is also the most scientifically supported—is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). This method works for 70–80% of people with chronic sleep problems. Not by forcing sleep, but by breaking the negative thoughts, patterns, and habits that stand in its way.
What I do
Today, I help others with what I’ve lived through and learned myself. Through Droomtroost, I guide adults who no longer sleep well due to busyness, stress, or an overactive mind. I work one-on-one, both in person and online via Zoom, and I also give workshops and lectures. Every program starts with a thorough sleep analysis, so I can fully understand what’s going on for you—because no two sleepers are the same.
My approach is scientifically grounded, but anything but clinical. I know how lonely and powerless it can feel to lie awake at night while the rest of the world is asleep.
I work with busy adults who feel like they’re juggling too many responsibilities—work, family, social obligations—and notice that their sleep is suffering as a result. People who know they need to sleep better, but don’t know how.
If you recognize yourself in what I describe: you’re in good company—and there is a way out.
