A bad night doesn’t have to make a bad day

Do you remember pulling an all-nighter in the past? Did you have a bad day the next day?
Do you remember pulling an all-nighter in the past? Did you have a bad day the next day?

A short one this time... I’m a big fan of Chris Winter, an American neurologist and sleep scientist who sometimes takes an unconventional approach but always provides sharp insights.

Winter says: people with sleep problems often put a lot of mental pressure on themselves to have to sleep. They are so tense about the consequences of a bad night’s sleep that it makes sleep impossible.

In their heads, poor sleep is life-threatening. But in real life, it usually isn’t as bad as it seems. We’ve all missed a night’s sleep – for a party, a deadline, or a child who just wouldn’t sleep. Did you feel great the next day? Absolutely not. Was it impossible to get through the day? Honestly? Exactly.

And yes, that moment you suddenly get furious at that tailgater on your way to work? That’s just sleep deprivation, not the end of the world.
